I
t starts slowly, gently drawing you in… you’re introduced to a number of strangely interesting and compelling characters. The plot seems at first to be satisfyingly predictable, then — suddenly — the narrative takes a completely unexpected turn! The protagonist is thrown into a series of devastating and alarming twists and turns! The antagonist triumphs — evil trounces good, mass hysteria seizes the city streets! Our Hero is separated from his One True Love, and it seems that she has fallen for The Villain of the Piece! Will Good Prevail? Will Evil Perish? Will Love Conquer All?!? I don’t know yet — that’s as far as I’ve got. Don’t worry, it has a Great Ending.

Testimonials

“I used one of your fonts for a logo design I did yesterday (my first real freelance job) for Freshly Squeezed Flash. Their products are being used in the gift bags for celebrities at this month’s MTV Video Awards. I thought I would share this with you since I use your fonts in everything I do. I love you guys and your work.”

Lettering Tip: Sawtooth Balloons

Vegetrott writes:

“In Adobe Illustrator, how would you go about getting a balloon for, say The Spectre? Where it looks almost like a rotating blade.

“Or how about a speech balloon for a demon (making it look kinda like flames)?”

Sure! We call ‘em “sawtooth balloons”, and here’s how we make ‘em…

Text and the City: New Orleans

Took a trip with the family to New Orleans back in March of ‘04, and in between meals (ah, the jambalaya and po’boys), I would snap pix of the cool old signage we encountered. Wonder if any of them are still there? Tomorrow marks the one year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, and sadly, much of the Gulf Coast is still in bad shape. Habitat for Humanity is helping to rebuild homes there; I just sent them 20 bucks. Hope you will do the same.
