Multiple Inking Styles over Dell'Otto tonal pencils of Spider-Man

I found this tonal pencil drawing of Spider-man by Gabriele Dell’otto along with seven variations of inking styles by:

Awesome example of how comic book inkers are not “tracers” but true artists bringing their own unique style to the creative process.

My First Digital Sketch

I decided to finally give my new Wacom tablet and Corel Painter 11 a little spin tonight. When I got my new Mac and my family and I remodeled our Studio I decided to give up drawing on paper and move to a completely digital workflow. Below is my first digital sketch of my buddy Brian from the Dollar Bin.

Pirate

My daughter went to a birthday on October 30 that had a pirate theme. All of the kids were giving these incredible little treasure chests that had an eye patch, bandana, telescope and other little novelty items a pirate might have while sailing at sea.

This inspired me to draw a pirate. No references, jut what I could come up with from my imagination. The only thing I didn’t do was name the pirate. Below is my sketch and the inked version. If you can come up with a name for the pirate that would be great.

Backpack for Fundraiser

Backpack drawing of toiletries and school suppliesI was asked to come up with an illustration for a series of posters for a fund raiser my day-job employer is participating in. It’s to collect things like toiletries, underwear, socks, and school supplies for kids who come from low income families.

Above is what I came up with. I’ll finish this on my Mac and insert it into the poster design. I whipped this together in about 10 minutes. I’m pretty happy with the results.

Self Portrait

Self PortraitsI’m gonna start doing a self-portrait once a month. This is to help me gauge how much I’m learning as I move closer to my goal of submitting a portfolio to Pixar. I hoping my self-portraits will have more “life” to them. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

The image above is a couple of different styles. The one on the left is how I prefer to draw my self-portrait. The one on the right is incorporating more curves and a less stylistic approach. Plus it makes me look (or feel) older which isn’t cool since my 30th birthday is in one month.

If you have any pointers or tips please feel free to send them my way via the comments section or via email.
