Thursday, March 15, 2007 I love Dreamhost.com and the excellent hosting and support they provide. I also love SquareSpace.com, an awesome hosted blogging/content management system (CMS) with tons of features.
SquareSpace doesn’t offer the option to register a domain with their system so you have to find a registrar that’ll allow you to buy a domain name and then modify the DNS records to point your domain to SquareSpace. Dreamhost allows the modification of your domain’s DNS record.
Before you modifiy your DNS settings you need to delete the user associated with your domain. This just tells Dreamhost’s servers that your domain is not hosted with them, see Figure 1.
To modify your DNS settings click on the DNS link below your domain name in your Manage Domains area of the control panel, see Figure 2.
SquareSpace specifies that you create a CNAME record that points to www.squarespace.com. Make sure to add the “www” in the CNAME record, see Figure 3.
After you have done the above, log in to your SquareSpace account and activate the Domain Mapping feature.
