Portfolio Updates for Heroes Con 2008
I uploaded several pieces to my portfolio sections. New print ads, a banner, t-shirts, lettered comic pages, business cards and a comic book design. I’ve been really busy getting ready for Heroes Con 2008. I’m due to be pulling out of my driveway in five hours. Nothing like the last minute to take care of some business.
I’m attending Heroes Con with the Dollar Bin and will be interviewing creators, recording panels and mingling with fans. I’m looking forward to a fun weekend. I hope to come home with many contacts for my freelance lettering and design to land more work or simply make new friends.
Morbid Myths Halloween Special 2007
Last year I lettered the 2007 Halloween Special of Morbid Myths. With 36 pages of spooky and creepy tales you are sure to be entertained from cover to cover. Now you are probably thinking I’m wanting you to rush out to your favorite comic book shop to pick this up but I’m not. Oh, no. I want you to download it for FREE! Seriously, I’m not kidding. To make this even better you can do it legally and not feel guilty about stealing it .
“How is this possible,” you ask? Wowio is Web site that is helping to bridge the gap between readers, sponsors and publishers. You can download all of the available books on their Web site for free. This is possible through the use of subtle, strategically placed advertisements.
Morbid Myths is only one of many available digital comics you can get on Wowio. They have a huge inventory of comics and graphic novels to choose from. Including the famous Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Head on over to Wowio, download the Morbid Myths 2007 Halloween Special and comment on what you think about the book and my lettering. You can also sample other projects and pages of my lettering on the right in the yellow Portfolio stickie.
Organic Balloons and Dialogue
Recently, I “auditioned” for a lettering gig with an artist that has a very organic, painterly style. I lettered the script in Adobe Illustrator and then saved it out to a Photoshop (PSD) file. I opened the resulting Photoshop file and used various brushes and techniques to get that worn, organic quality to the balloons and dialogue.
I was happy with the results and proud of my submission. I didn’t get the gig, which is fine, but I wanted to post a sample of what I submitted.
I’ve been in contact with the creator of this comic book and I will be doing the lettering. I’m truly ecstatic about this and can’t wait to get started.
